So I started with this tank as my first about five months ago.

after a couple months i changed it up a bit and took out some of the big ornaments. Also added a piece of driftwood.

now ive taken out all the fake plants except the one that is my airline tubing :shifty: and replaced them with live plants which has made a huge difference to me.

I havent decided what kind of background to get yet, but I'm leaning toward just a plain black one. that will hide the visible cabels and I think make the large hideous internal filter less noticeable.

very cool :)

what kind of fish are those? Some look like painted glass fish :shout: or maybe they are just moving too fast for a great photo?

yeah sorry about the lousy pictures, im no photographer!

The stock list is :

3x Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis (Lemon tetra)
3x Hyphessobrycon flammeus (VonRio or Flame tetra)
3x Megalamphodus megalopterus (Black Phantom tetra)
2x Aphyocharax anisitsi (Bloodfin tetra) had 3, but lost one :rip:
4x Corydoras panda (Panda cory)
3x Corydoras paleatus (Peppered cory)

Yes, stock is a tiny bit on the heavy side, but its overfiltered and I am obsessive with water changes    :hey: (its an 18 US gallon tank, btw)

I dont like the "painted" fish at all,  -_- theres no reason to inject fish with dye when there are already so many colorful ones!

agreed...I feel guilty enough in this hobby why would anybody want to feel more guilty by owning "manipulated monstrosities" where the creation process kills upwards of 33%

Why would you feel guilty and still be in the hobby... ?? The only reason to feel guilty, is if you where not meeting your fishes needs... are you not?

The tank has become quite a bit better! Wait till' those plants grow out! The tank isn't horribly overstocked either!

Thanks for the compliments!! I know the plants are small, but yeah when they grow up they will look better I hope. Ill post some more pics when I put up a nice black background.

As a student of philosophy and biology I do feel slightly guilty...any of the fish you see that don't breed in captivity are often times plucked out of the ocean, or lakes etc. I care for my fish very much, check out my tank below :) The point is that like my mudskippers they very well may have come from their natural environment. Some don't some do. The one way i alleviate my guilt is to think that maybe my mudskippers were bird food the next day. Unlike a zoo or an aquarium people (except myself) are not really learning from this, after all isn't that one of the ways we validate zoos? So my guilt has nothing to do with me being negligent. My oscar out grew his tank so I gave him to a better home I love my fish, and fish in general. It is why i volunteer at the Denver aquarium.
