I wonder what a turtle thinks about .
The snapping turtle I removed from the bog this morning thought about this years and some of last years pond fish me thinks based on the predation that has happened iat the pond recently.

He was captured and was charged with murder. He was also charged with assault when he attacked the yard master by nearly nipping the hand that captured him. I had no idea a turtle had such a long neck.

The trial was held over coffee by a jury of two. After hearing victim statements from the pond population, the unanimous decision was death by lashing, but upon realizing he was encased in armor it was decided the sentence would be suspended and exile was superimposed. He was taken to a local pond that has a population of similar miscreants and informed should he reappear at our pond he would be terminated as a second offender.

I’ve kept various types of reptiles over the years and my turtles always seemed to have something going on upstairs; snakes and lizards, not so much.
Just like the human population .
They wonder what humans think about.
I kind of suspected that .
They’re thinking “when is my next meal.”
Just like us !

He better watch his step now !

i found they are very smart and polite. if you do something for them they let you know they appreciate it. but that's the ones in the wild.

We were kayaking one time when some big snappers started walloping my wife's boat. It seemed to be a game, but could have been an experiment to see how we would react. They went after my wife's boat, but only swam around mine. I think I was the control for the study.

I truly think intelligence appeared early in evolution. The issue is humans have been too self centred and unintelligent to recognize other forms of intelligence that other animals have. It's all around us, but we don't get it.

It's crucial to distinguish between intelligence and sentience. Artificial intelligence, for example, demonstrates intelligence without sentience. However, this study reveals the turtle's sentience through its discernible mood states and capacity for affect. The turtle exhibits feelings that could be as profound as our own, capable of anticipating, experiencing anxiety, excitement, pain, and pleasure. Recognizing this, our empathy demands that we exercise great care in how we treat the non-human creatures under our care and dependent upon us.
