Well, when my fish, Dusk, died, I replaced him with another guppy. I didn't quarantine him for nearly long enough, and this morning, everyone looked ok, but about a half hour ago, I noticed EVERYONE looks like they have sand on them. Some worse than others. I don't see any on ember yet, but there might be a spot or two on him.

Oh i could just kick myself. Why, oh wh was I so stupid!? I just KNOW Apollo, the new guppy, infected EVERYONE. What should I do?

Do you mean they look like they have been sprinkled in salt.

Maybe like salt, yes. It almost looks too big to be salt though.

well, first things first--exactly what species have you got in there?

is it a planted tank?

do you have invertabrates that you don't want to lose?

also, do you have a heater and a thermometer in there?

Do you mean they are covered in a gold dusting.

well if it is whitesopt turn the temp up to around 80-82 degrees
and do 25% water changes evry day
and asdd HALF the dose of meds
well worjed for me anyway

but if its not that sorry i cant help!

It sounds like velvet desease to me, are they flicking and rubbing on objects.

GSL, out of interest, why should she medicate only at half strength ? If that's a standard measurement, wouldn't they manufacture at half strength ?
And water changes should be carried out in accordance to the type and make of meds she will use - I do not believe there is an "across the board" way to do it.

There are 6 neons and 2 guppies in there currently.

The tank is not planted.

There is a heater, my thermoeter broke this morning, figures. I was going to pick one up today.

No invertabrates.

I think it might be ich, i have no idea though. All I kow is that whatever it is they latched on to my fish qick. A couple fish are like, covered, while a few just have like 2 or 3 specks.

well iim just saying what worked for me! andi said half the dose becasue i used the full ose last time EXACT measurments and it killed every single one of my fish.and i had to scrap everything and start again, this happened twice and i am using the right dose

I think it is ich, i turned my temp up a little, and it was at 79 before, so it should be now about 82? when my mom gets home in a half hour I will rush to the LFS and get something to treat it, and a new thermometer.

what products do you guys use?

Also, my filter media has carbon in it. What should I do if I am going to add meds? I don't want to take it out...

Not sure what the brands are in the USA. Though when you go to your lfs, check with them which one the recommend and use themselves. Tell them what fish you have. And treat exactly as directed. The other method would of course be to use salt - though personally I've never used it as it did not suit the types of fish I was treating.
Good luck.

If you are using meds you will have to remove the black carbon as it will just remove the meds out of the tank.
