Even with all the problems I've been having

If you've been reading the tropical chit chat/emergency sections you'll know all the problems I've been having!!

I knew my big black/opal swordtail was pregnant but I wasn't expecting her to give birth for awhile yet. Well when I went to do the water change and add the Ick medicine...I saw 1 little fry swimming around ) I immidiately stopped gravel vaccing and I managed to net about 8-10 little fry up. They are different colors too. A few are black like mommy and a few are orange like the daddy. I think this is her first pregnancy from the daddy swordtail in my tank because her last 3 batches of fry have all been black.

Well babies are happy in their new home. I moved them all over to my fry tank

Even though I already have so many fry and really don't need these guys...It still makes my heart all warm and fuzzy to see new life

Sounds cool ....good thing you got them out ! Swords are quite canabalistic ... I was thinking of getting a black male myself too go with my green/neon females ... one is HUGE and expecting any day now

Sure hope all your problems clear up real soon and that's wonderful the number of babies you've got. Sure glad you found them before they became crunch and munch. I have tetras in my guppy tank...they get all the guppy fry that are too slow. Natural culling. Well if I can catch the latest male in that tank the girls will get a rest for awhile. Congrats on your babies! I bet they're soooo cute.

I've noticed that my swordtails are very canabalistic. They seem to hunt for the fry and get very excited. I have guppies as well in another tank and a female gave birth to 15 fry the other week and I noticed that guppies are a lot more peaceful and don't really try to catch the fry unless the fry actually swim past them.

The black swordtail mom even though she's so pretty and one of my favorites I think she's kinda evil cause shes always trying to eat her fry!! She eats so much too she's the HOG of the tank lol

SnowyzMom - I finally decided to remove all my guppy females from my guppy tank and now only have 4 males. I couldn't deal with all the fry!! I took 3 females to my lfs and just kept my favorite girl whos in another tank.
