Actually it's still in there. I forgot to mention it . I moved it to the back since it should grow taller, though the stems are still only a few inches tall. I almost got rid of it, until I realised there had been new root growth and some small leaves starting to grow. Which is probably why I forgot it was in there.

I put him in there after it was dechlorinated. Since I got him, I've kept watch over the ammonia and nitrite levels daily. Yesterday he got a 50% water change since I replanted it, so the ammonia levels should have backed down a little bit (they were somewhere between .25 and .5 at the end of the first week--that was Monday).

I just want to say WELL DONE!!! For being such a caring betta owner, you will go very far! Unfortunately plants are sold at lfs even though they aren't true aquatic plants. EVerybody has made this mistake so don't beat yourself up! The member that mentioned it was just trying to help, even though you may have been a little upset by it. Your java fern and anubias should grow quite nicely as they are easy to grow items. The anubias is slow growing so watch out for algae growing on the leaves. Moss balls are made of algae and are slow growing too, so the theory is you shouldn't get other algae growing cos this algae is growing... So your anubias should be ok.

Well done for keeping an eye on the water parameters too, thumbs up to an excellent new fishkeeper
