Hi , I received escargot shells for a tang tank , wanting to clean them , do I just use boiling water ? I know it sounds like a daft question just wasnt sure if it would break them...... :stupid:

Yeah, boiling water is it. I usually add the shells to the water first, and swish them around a bit, so water gets pretty much all the way in the shell, and then slowly bring the water to a boil.

By the way, how's the set up coming along?

Nearly there. On Monday I received my filter floss , Hydor ETH , Hydor Korolia , Caribsea Cichlid Sand 9kg , Tuesday received Escargot shells (48). :good:
Stripped the tank of all plants , stacked all the cobbles to get an idea of layout. Got all the Java Fern and sort of tangled the roots so all the small plants become one big plant, it's like a big tumbleweed floating around in there. Taking the 5 pieces of Blue Sodalite back tomorrow, at £7.00 a pop and I don't like it that much the more I look at it , mad. Shop in Edinburgh has only 1 multi left(?) Who leaves 1 fish there on its own?
Was going to order from Wildwoods next Tuesday cos I'm off work Wednesday, I could phone tomorrow and have the fish this Friday , the temptation is killing me , :hyper:  lol. Problem is tank still has all the stock still in it , phoned LFS and the guy said he wasnt running a swap shop (?) I thought I was going to just give him the fish but hes lost out on that one now,,,,,, ???? need USB to get some pics up , fancied doing a journal but I suppose if you read this post I won't need to now , lol
Stocking plan Neolamprologus Multifasciatus 4,5 or 6. Julidochromis Dickfeldi 1. Neolamprologus Caudopunctatus 1.
Also like Paracyprichromis Nigripinnis but very expensive and don't want to put to much in.... Will keep the 2 young BN plecs in there.
Bet you're sorry you asked now, I need an automatic editor..........

Meant to ask , how is your multis settling in ? Any new pics ?

Wow, lot's going on with you. That's good, though, means you're making progress. I saw my somewhat LFS had some cyps a couple of weeks ago. I would have loved to have bought them, because I read that they make good dithers for shell dwellers. Unfortunately, my tank is way too small for a small school of cyps. Julis are nice, too. Oh, I am a fish addict, now I'm thinking about getting a Juli. No. I am not going to buy any more fish...until I switch tanks.

My multi's are doing well. They are the most skittish creatures though, especially my male. I'm going to be redesigning their tank, hopefully today. I bought some more shells for them, and some large pebbles and pieces of slate to place on the bottom of the tank, and then a thin layer of sand and then the shells. They do not like their shells to sit on sand, and I do not like to look at glass on the bottom of a tank. Who ever thought a fish the size of a peanut could be such a chore!

lol , i just ordered thme this morning, so should be here tomorrow, tank almost ready for them, just in from work and working tonight , 6 multis, 1 juli, 1 caudo, wanted more julies buti managed to stop myself..... that was hard lol...... slate sounds nice, was talking about that last night , on the lookout now , you have me thinking , wondered where that pain was coming from .... :good:

im thinking of changing my tank to a shelldweller setup, can i ask where you got the escargot shells from and how much they were?

thanks dARREN

Hi , I bought them from this guy , tried tons of local delis but I think they were gonna phone the guys in the white coats when I told them what I wanted , this guy knew straight away , excellent service .....
Would recommend the shell dweller tank , I can't stay away from it, all the digging and watching them explore all the nooks and crannies is very addictive
