I was looking at my photos and was staring at my newer ones of Mad Hatter and noticed something:

*cough* It's the tail!!

I was looking at my new photos and was thinking...huh...I could have sworn he had a ton of white on his tail when I got him. It was what I loved about him. Pulled up a photo from 2 months ago when I first bought him and was like OMG!!! WHAT happened?

Has this happened before to anyone? I'm disappointed now that my butterfly HM male is slowly become...SOLID blue.

Oh, and I just looked at him and his tail is SHREDDED. This morning it wasn't like that. I think he's becoming a tail biter. Just my luck! I wonder what set him off?

Bettas can change colour. Mine is a butterfly too and I'd be upset if he lost it. His tail still looks lighter blue, but that might just be the light or something.

As for IF it is tail biting it could be becasue he can see your other betta and is getting stressed /angry (I seem to remember you had a tank with a divider - cos I liked the look of him then :))

He's been able to see his betta "frienemy" for a month or two now with no issues.

I thought about it and it /could/ possibly be an attack from a ghost shrimp. I think there is still one left on his side of the divider and I saw a big one shred his fins in the past. But the shreds seems kind of long for a ghost shrimp to have been the culprit. I haven't even seen it with my own eyes in like 6 weeks (the shrimp that is)

And his tail is blue now (all one shade), but for the very tips of it which are white. So far my other male isn't changing colors. I suspect he won't though either because he has cellophane tips.
