Ladies and Gents, Boys and Girls, all our fish lovers around the world: It's time for our exciting and very popular Pet of the Month Contest!

If you have a pet in your household (no fish allowed) we encourage you to enter it in our Pet of the Month contest.

RULES:
A picture uploaded via our "attach files" tool with a handwritten note held in front of your pet with "September 2025 TFF POTM" written on it is required to validate your entry. If you wish, you may post a second picture without the note attached. If you post 2 pics, only the one without the note will be in the poll. Right under the pictures, post any details about your pet such as name, age, how you got your pet, what you feed it, tricks and unique traits and anything else you'd like to share.
  • If you won a POTM contest previously, you must skip at least 1 POTM contest before you can enter a different pet.
  • A detailed description is required!
  • Entries will be accepted till 4 pm ET (US) on September 22th or when we have 12 entrants...whichever comes first. Any entrant who posts an entry after we have 12 entrants will be asked to enter the next POTM contest and their post will be deleted. What do I win?
  • You will get a cool banner in your profile area noting that you are a winner of Pet of the Month.

This is Boris The Spider, named in honor of The Who song. Boris The Spider is a presumed female Vitalius chromatus (formerly Nhandu chromatus). V. chormatus hails from Southern Brazil and Paraguay and inhabits subtropical forests and grasslands. Commonly called the Brazilian Red and White Tarantula (and you thought fish common names were bad), V. chromatus is a large terrestrial Tarantula with a life span of around 4 years for males and 15-20 years for females.
As far as temperament, V. chromatus are skittish and very fast. Though they are more likely to run and hide when provoked they do possess some of the most irritating urticating hairs of all tarantulas.
I purchased Boris as a 1/2" spiderling on 10/22/20. Boris has molted 13 times in my care includong the last molt on 8/14/25 and now measures 6+" DLS (diagonal leg span, that's how tarantulas are measured). Boris eats a varied diet of insects. I feel 4-5 red runner roaches or a couple of superworms weekly during the warmer months and 4-5 red runners every other week during the cooler months.

I included a 3rd photo with tape measure just so you can get a scope of size.
