Hey,

I'm getting some Endlers, and I dont know if they are closely realted, but would LOVE to breed them...

Is it as bad as inbreeding mollys and such? Or is it just a better idea to seperate the females, and find some different males to stick with them?

I dont think endlers and mollys can interbreed (im probs wrong) but if they can i would. A endler molly mix. :D

Eddied316 was asking about INbreeding rather than INTERbreeding but your point about interbreeding is relavant it they are going in the same tank.

Inbreeding is bad for all species (or at least the vast majority) of animal as it produces weaker offspring which, if allowed to breed, in turn produce weaker offspring. Brother/sister seems to be the worst followed by parent/offspring mating. cousins breeding has a far reduced risk (that's why human cousins are allowed to marry). The more removed the relationship is the less the risk.

Mother Nature has her 'survival of the fittest' policy so reducing the problems of inbreeding (they may be inbreed but they are fit & healthy or dead) but as you will be rearing as many of each brood you will be overiding Mother Nature.

Unfortunately you won't be able to do much about it unless you purchase from two dirrerent breeders & put the male from one with the female from the other.

If that's not posible then just go for it but if you want to sell them, going that 'extra mile' to find dirrerent breeders would be worth it in the long run.

the best way to maintain them is to add new blood every year, also another way that can help is to split over 2 tanks and swap 10% between the 2 tanks each year, but even with that you will still need to add new blood at the least once every 2 years. the advantage you have at the moment is that endlers are still fairly new in the hobby so for the moment they are not as inbred as guppies, but it wont take long. as for endler molly x it has been done, they dont readily interbreed but it can be done.
