ok so we ended up with a beautiful Betta a little ahead of schedule!!! we were at walmart back in the pet section buying some betta food and silk plants to PREPARE for getting a betta when i looked over at the ''betta section'' and they had about 8 containers of betta's (HORRIBLE!) 4 were crowntail betta males, they were beautiful but really small and we wanted something a little bigger so i looked at the other 4 containers marked regular betta males, they too were all beautiful. i wasent going to buy one but they all looked so sad.... if i had 4 10gallon aquariums with 4 splitters so they could each have their own 5 gallon tank i would have bought every one!! but we took home a beautiful purple and teal 'regular' betta male. his fins look good but i dont know what betta's are supposed to look like so im not sure if the darker coloration ontop of his head and around his gills (almost like scales are missing) is normal?? here's a couple pictures of him..

also if someone could tell me what kinda betta he is that would be awesome!

He looks like a vt (veil tail) to me but I'm sure the more experienced betta people can help you out :good:
He's very nice :) also I think some of them just have that coloration and it's nothing to worry about :)

it is a Veil tail. He has very nice colouration aswell. Good on you for rescuing him, I always want to do that when I see sad looking ones in shops.

His fins look a little tatty, so you'd be good doing some small w/cs every day for a while to heal them up quickly. :D

Very pretty VT there :D

Is the tank all set up and cycled for him now then?

:) i wanted to take them all home but not enough room! im sure we will end up with another betta (in another tank lol) sometime soon as my daughter REALLY wants a pink one. she says ''he's pretty but he's not pink mom!''

o_O can you elaborate on ''tatty''?? lol
i dont see any rips or tears in his fins but as i said ive never owned a betta before....
i'll make sure i start doing some small water changes though if you say they need to be healed :)
would adding some melafix or something help too??

keep good care of him your very lucky to have one so beautiful in a few weeks he will brighten up and so will his colours and if your lucky you could train him :hyper:
