Today my cat got to my 3yr old tiger barb :( Either thatg or Mr Barb committed suicide :( So now my 3ft tank is even more empty.

I am trying to decide what to do....the tank currently houses the following:

2x clown loaches
2x bristol nose plecs
1x lonely neon
1x danio
1x albino corydora (Mr Albino)
1x feeder fish (for some reason i have a feeder fish)
1x gold gourami who is old and 2yrs of age. Slow moving.

Im wondering whether my PK or VT would be ok in this tank? I thought about taking out my neon and danio and rehousing them in something smaller if i can transfer over a betta...i dont know...after Mr Barb dieing today it just looks so.....empty.....

Im devestated at Mr Barbs death  :-(

I dont know how he got it....but he was found with it...the lids pretty secure. But i had just fed them so Mr Barb would of been at the top eating...

ANyway...back to my question....with the stocking currently could i put one of my bettas in there? My neon and danio look so tiny in there i have thought about transferring them to my PK or VTs home and swapping them over. As itr is a 3ft tank....the cory is the only active one now apart from the slow gourami..

Aww, poor Mr Barb! Naughty cat (but I do love cats and have one of my own, although he's not a bit interested in my fish tanks)

Anyway, back to your question - I really wouldn't put your betta in that tank. I don't think the gourami and betta would get on. The general consensus is that male bettas do better in their own little tank than in a community tank. Unless you move the gourami out as well...

Why not get a few companions for your gold gourami in the 3ft instead? Or maybe a nice shoal of something eyecatching... there are so many to choose from. You could even get a few more neons to make your little lonesome soldier a bit happier LOL.

Electric Yellow - No, dont put a male betta in with those fish. Although i doubt it will do anything sinister, it may not get on well with the Gourami. You do realise that the Clown Loaches will need a bigger tank?

Yeah i am aware the loaches will :) Im actually looking at upgrading to a 6ft tank for my cichlids and maybe if our new house permits a new 4-6ft for the communal tank the loaches are in. They seem quite content in this one though but i think that is due to the low stocking of it. So there is more space for them. The loaches and gourami and barb were the first fish i bought 3years ago when i got the tank.

(sorry about my edited reply...i was tierd and upset)

The neon use to be a family of 10 and the danio had a family of 5 but over the years they passed on. I tried readding more but because the gourami and barb were old and adult size they became breaky so its just been the neon and danio :\ Im looking at swapping the sbutrate over after we move to sand. All though it is fun watching the loaches throw the gravel around foriging for food! I wasnt sure about a male going in there so thats why i asked :)

Or maybe a nice shoal of something eyecatching

Would a school of female bettas be ok? They have to be kept in groups of 5 or 6 dont they?

Hi

I cant see a problem with 5 or 6 females :good: There are some nice ones about now, so you would still get the colours :good:

Yeah its trying to find some in Aus thats the issue lol!

Im not looking to breed but some fishies to take away the empty space would be good. I think the gourami has been mourning. He is all droppy today and not his usual self.
