i disagree Raechel,
glass cats would do fine in a 20l

Cool so the list so far is:

2 Bolivian Rams
4 Ottos
8 neons
4 or 5 Glass cats

Sounds pretty much stocked up to me... maybe space for 2 or 3 more neons and a couple of Ottos. Du7nno if there's enough room for cories though...

There are 2 species of 'glass catfish' commonly sold - the 'african' glass catfish that gets up to 3" and which is eutropiellus debawwi and the plain old glass catfish which is kryptopterus bicirrhis and gets to 4". Make sure you know which one it is... Oh and there's also the indian glassifhs but these aren't usualy confused with the others (they get to 2" though :p) .

Also, bolivians are a little more aggressive than german blues and, if you're going to keep otos (which can be pretty fragile themselves), you shouldn't have problems with any of the rams anyway. Just saying that you don't HAVE to go with bolivians though, TBH, I preffer the bolivians' character.

Considering the possible size the glass catfish can get to, just stick to what you have decided and leave the cories for now.

Yes OK, that's cool. Sounding like it should turn out to be quite a nice little tank.

Which fish should I add first? What order? I think the neons will ahve to be first to keep company for my two little lonely ones in the three gallon (still perfectly fine though).

So you'll get the tetras first? If you're going to go for bolivian rams, I'd add them next. If you go for blue, add them last. Then put the catfish in and then the otos when there's a little green algae staring to grow.

Depending on your filtration and how vigilant you are with water changes, you could add more neons, based on my experiences.
I do 25% changes twice a week, on my 15g, and run an Aquaclear 50/200.
I've got 2 german blue rams, 5 cories [3 pygmy, 1 panda, 1 peppered], 11 neons, and 3 otos. Plus loads of live plants.

I may have just been lucky with my rams though, they're very passive and only nip at the panda cory maybe once a week if they're both after the same bottom feeder tablet.

Though you don't have to do this, I'm just saying it works for me. The higher number of neons looks really nice darting in amongst the plants. :)

Well I was thinking of making some sort of filter because I only have on of the old Fluvals which really aren't that good. I might add a 150 GPH powerhead an make a fluidised bed filter to supplement that.

Hi, I haven't updated this for ages, but my tank has now cycled fully. The two survivors of the old disaster are still alive and kicking - and there are some new additions to the tank. I added twelve neons, a bristelnose plec and a Great African Filter Shrimp!

I apologise for the poor pictures, they can't capture the beauty of all those neons darting through and flowing around each other.

What do you think? :p

Looks great :) You know that tall, thin-leaved grassy looking plant? What is it? (the plants on the left)

The reed-type plants are vallisneria spirallis. I don't know what happened to all my pictures, I will try to fix that now.

EDIT: Must be being temperamental, all the pics are back now :dunno:
