Well, if you dont want ADF's, i would suggest some kind of shrimp.

a betta will show its best at about 10gallons but could servive on its own in a 1.5 gallon. if you want a betta get some shrimps to add a bit more life to your tank but also to help with the clearing up.

if i could get anything at this point, it would be a fiddler crab so if thats possible thats my number one choice
