Hi guys, I saw a few of these at my LFS recently and would like to find out how to care for them.
Should they be maintained in schools, pairs or alone?
Are they aggressive or fin nipping?
How big do they grow? I've read anywhere from 5 to 12 centimeters.
How larger tank would I need?

Also if you own any empire gudgeons and have pictures of them or their setups I'd love to see them.
:)

I haven't kept empires before, but I have had purple spotted gudgeons and my experience with them has been, TOTAL gluttens and if it fits in their mouth (other fish and shrimp wise) it will be eaten.
They can be territorial towards their own kind mostly when breeding, but with fish of similar size and temperment I think they are pretty good, a trio consisting of 1 male and two females would probably be the best grouping for them.
They are also prone to making leaps out of uncovered tanks.
Tank size really will depend partially on anything else you want to keep with them, any plantings and structure. A nice 3ft tank with some rainbow fish as mid to top level fish with a trio of empire gudgeons as mid to bottom fish would work well, planted up with val and some hollow logs and timber.
