I am currently running 2 emperor 400's on a 55 gallon fish only saltwater tank for added filtration and circulation. Instead of putting the standard filter pads in the emperor's, i assume that filling up the resivoirs with some other type of media would be more efficient.

What do you think?

I even found that a single emperor 400 has more media storage capacity then an eheim canister with 2 baskets. i was thinking either ceramic noodles or bio-balls..any opinions?

I always use something other than the standard filter media. I think that's a good idea.

Carbon, no bio balls or ceramic media. Both ceramics and bio balls will trap detritus and will become bigtime nitrate traps. Not good...
