my purple marbel vt male isn't eating his blood worms, hes resting at the top of the water and his body is kind of floating up side ways and then he'll move and then repeat. i did a water change in his bowl and after i added water conditioner and salt. whats wrong? what should i do?

he could be constipated, try feeding him a cooked, deshelled, pea.

i agree that he sounds constipated; "Do not feed for one day then feed vegetable flakes or the inside of a cooked pea. As a last resort do a short Epsom salt bath (15 minutes only!) using 1 Tbsp salt per gal.
Rotate foods on a regular basis including live foods and do not overfeed.
2-3 pellets, shrimps, bloodworms, etc. two or three times a day is plenty". - courtesy of betta md.

well he going to the bath room but ill try the pea, but if hes not eating bw's then how am i going to get him to eat the pea? and can u explain the salt bath?

just don't feed him for a day, then see if he will eat. not feeding him one day isn't going to kill him. many keepers will fast their fish once a week or so.

Just to clarify...you added the conditioner and salt after changing the water?

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding.It's just that I thought the salt /water had to be mixed before adding and just wondered if that might be part of the problem.I hope you can get him back to good health.

ok ill fast him foru a day, he didn'y eat the pea i just put in there and i just added 2 drops of meth blue in there. im going to do another water change in a few hours without adding any more chemicles. i dont think melafix will help any but do u think it will? i thoght it was for fungus and stuff but will it help constipation?

and koda, i added the salt and conditioner straight in the tank but after it dissolved i stired it up with a spoon. i know i should be mixing the water before i add it and i userally do but sometimes i juts put it straight in, ill have o quite doing that

hey, i cant really tell because of the meth blue but i think theres some kind of fluffy white stuff growing on his gill thingy that pops out when he gets pissed off. anyone have any ideas?

well its over... after keeping a close eye on him and doing another water change he died. im still not entirely sure what happend, that fuzz thing on his gill may have been the probablem, i dont really think it was constipation any more, he was eating yesterday and now he's juts dead i hope it wasn't my falt, i think i did all i could

awww, i'm so sorry I'm sure you did all you could, don't stress yourself over that. Ugh, it'd be nice if they could tell us what is ailing them.. but they can't. I'm really sorry for your loss

i know, but its still going to bother me to no end, perhaps this new spawn im going to do next month will cheer me up
