emergency sick ram!!!

my small ram caled octavia is ill i think its amle the the bigger male may have been picking on him the ram whas alittle qwhite thing behide the gill like its be biten and he looks really plaE AND COLOURLESS ......(soz about caps) i dunno what to do!!!!!

If I understand your post correctly he has a bite on him?

It could be a one-time thing but if you want, seperate them and try some Melafix.

If the bite isn't that bad there isn't much to worry about. It will heal. I can't imagine a ram doing much damage with just 1 bite.

Keep the water extremely clean and keep an eye out for secondary infection.

soz i got impainent, and there have been un ekplainable deaths in my tank so i have moved octavia into a trifle glass bowl and put some stress coat in it and a tiny bit of salt...... i know i should of used fish aquairium salt but i fought it miht help!!! and i only put tiny bit in and it seems ok ish.... at least the otehr fish won't botehr it especailly cladicus!!! he seem ok... the white bit does look like a tear of into his flesh its kinda on the gill right near the eye!! its may of had a run in with a rock when being chased!!!
i dunno if what i have done has helped....

I would think that it would be better to leave in the same tank and treat than to keep him in a glass bowl tho.

I really don't think you have anything to worry about in this instance. Keep an eye on them and if you see him getting bullied then you can make other arrangements but I think you should be fine leaving them together.

octavia surived the night and i think it looks pale is beacuse of there is no bright light on her/him also th wound is still lokking quite bad.......... my mum think melfix or any mecinde will be expensive i think she think he/she is going to die... i might add a tiny bit more salt??? do u think that will help,still need help guys..

Not sure what to tell you then if your Mom won't buy Melafix or any meds. I guess the lil guy is totally on his own then.
How expensive is Melafix in the UK?

You can add salt and hope for the best then.

It's hard for me to imagine that a single ram bite can be that bad tho, as in life-threatening. But if you say it is, I have no reason to doubt you tho.

i am not sur eit s bite..... t loks a bit like growth now it just looks very odd it hard to tel if it the gill which is damaged or this growth thing is on top of the gill.... it looks odd too a certain extent it loooks like little bubble stuck togetehr but are hard i think and pinky in colour .... i will try and go to lfs and buy some melafix i didn't know they selled it this country until recently also ...... i might keep a look out for female ram replacement if all goes wrong!!!

Were you using table salt? I don't think that is a good idea. Sometimes if one of my fish is sick and I don't know what is wrong with it I bring it to LFS. If your local LFS is good you may want to try it. If he is in a bowl you could just bring the whole thing. Good luck.

unfortually it is normal table salt but is't all salt the same thing... i am going to wait aother day so i can get the medicine.. but the fish does seem to have slightly percked up maybe i might move her back into the tank she hasn't eaten much in the past days just one bit of flake...

No, not at all. Never use table salt or anything with Iodine in it.

how come excplanation would of been nice please... its nicer to understand. anyways well today i thought maybe she was getting better so i decide to ut her back into the main tank but sas soson as ai out her in there she went very pale and the male came straigth away and started to flare at her whil eshe was in the net . i didn't relaly know what to make of thsi and she semeed to want to get out of the net so relased her . then after few seconds the male started to bit at her wound... he had made it worse again more raw!!! so rescued her again and out her back in her galss trifle bowl... i think i might get aher a small tank maybe so she can live alone.... i was think of getting a betta but maybe she can live in it lol and then when she better i might add the cherry babrs in ther for company... as they are small and like dither fish. also toormmorow i am goign to lfs to get some medicie and maybe her new home lol and baby holding thing which floats!!!

Iodine can kill fish. That is why you don't want to use it.

Sounds like your male won't accept her back. I would keep them in seperate tanks like you were going to do. A tank would be better than a bowl imo.

unfortually we are to late this morning octavia died i had looked at her and they was somthing wrong with her gills were the male had been biting her.... ...so thanx everyone and especially smb for trying to save her ........ we might go to the lfs and maybe get three small rams so hat he has choice... also need to get babys breedingthing for my livebearers..... and maybe still ge that tank..
