Hey everyone,

My girlfriend bought 2 goldfish from Wal-mart tonight (yea, I know) and they both have ick.

They were in the tank for about 5-10 minutes before I realized they had ick, and we immediately put them in a diff. tank. The other tank unfortunately isn't cycled at all but we had to do that so they didn't affect the big tank.

Is the big tank going to be ok, or should that be treated with rid-ick as well? I'm not sure what 5-10 minutes would do.

Also, when putting the fish from walmart into the big tank we used a net and didn't pour the walmart water into the big tank.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

I think you should be okay (dont take my word for it) but to be on the safe side you could treat it with Anti Whitespot.
and it can only be treated when its in its free floating form, when on the fish it cant be killed.

if you able you should get some of the Media from your cycled tank and add it to your uncycled to help it progress,
but you might need to do water changes eachday

good luck

are you sure it's whitespot?
In warm weather male goldfish develop little white dots on the side of their face and the edge of the pectoral (side) fins. If the white spots are elsewhere then it is whitespot, but if the spots are only on the side of the face or front fins then it could be they are male fish in breeding condition.

If you tipped the water through a net and put the fish into the tank for 5-10 minutes, there is a very low chance of the whitespot being introduced to that tank. The spots would have to fall off the fish while it was in the tank. Then it will develop in the gravel for a few days before hatching out and spreading to the other fish.

The white stuff was completely covering their body so I don't think it was breeding. I've learned my lesson from Wal-Mart lol - never again!

About the big tank, should I have her just do a good siphoning tonight in the gravel and do like a 50% water change to make sure she got it all?

I would think that could not hurt.

In fact, if it is not a huge hassle, you could do a few daily gravel clean/water changes in a row I would think.
