Sometimes the growths may fall off (as happened w/ my pleco, leaving a scar), or the fish may live with it for years. Other times, the outcome might not be so good. If memory serves, I believe it was recommended that the fish be quarantined maybe 2mo., before being returned to main tank. There's rumors of this or that drug having an effect...but nothing confirmed.

My best advice would be to quarantine the fish, keep water as clean as possible (as any time when treating), and watch the nitrogen levels. If you do notice the lumps go missing, I'd suggest a large water change (I was already doing 50% daily, due to tank size)...and have some Melafix on hand to stave off possible infection.

I can't tell from the pic (tho I can think I can)...but I imagine you've read the descriptions--it should be a warty growth, with a 'cauliflower' look to it.

Sort of looks like irritated scales..... I don't know though it's hard to tell from the pic... keep the water as clean as you can while you medicate or whatever you end up doing to help em out
