So my ember tetras were doing well but now one of the has started turning black around the gills (he’s still acting fine). I’ve googled it and apparently it’s a parasite that is contagious and has no cure. Is this true? (I couldn’t get a good quality photo). Ive already lost two tetras to this (I think I can’t be 100% sure but they both had this before they died). I really don’t want euthanise but if I have to then I will.

Thanks

There are very few diseases that cause black marks on fish. the most common one is small black dots on the fish.

Black patches on the fish is usually caused by chemical burns, and regularly include chlorine/ chloramine poisoning.

We need pictures and video.

-------------------
Tell us about the other fish that have died and the history of the tank.
How long has the tank been set up for?
What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the tank water?

How often do you do water changes, how much water do you change?
How often do you clean the filter and how do you clean it?

How long have you had the fish for?
Have you added anything to the tank in the 2 weeks before this started?

I’ve had the tank set up for about two years, it’s cycled and I do weekly 20% water changes. I’ve had the tetras since last August. All the ones that have died with this have seemed fine. They still eat although sometimes they just sit in the corner of the tank by themselves. My tank light is off for another few hours and I don’t want to disturb them but I’ll try and get a video of him then.

here are the photos, I’m not sure how to upload a video. It looks more like something growing out of him then a mark

Gonna need some better pictures. The camera is focusing on the plants and rock but not the fish. Take a heap more and check them on your computer. Find a couple that are clear and in focus, and show the problem.

If you upload the video to YouTube, you can copy & paste the link here.
