Not the King (he's on mars), my fish. I was away for 2 weeks. When I left, the water quality was good and my fish all looked healthy. When I returned, Elvis, my blue ram, was dead , the nitrate level was dangerously high, and the water looked very murky. I think my mom may have overfead them, but I'm not going to tell her that because I don't want to make her feel bad.

Anyway, I did a 25% water change immediately, and I'll probably do another one tomorrow. The water still looks murky, though. If you look closely, you can see a lot of dirt floating around. Is there anything I can do to clear that up faster?

10-30% water changes twice daily.

This is an example of why you should never have anyone feed your fish for you. Fish can survive for a very long time without food. Most people do not have any idea how much to feed fish and overfeed them. In this case there is a very good possibility that the overfeeding caused the water quality to decline and poison the fish. In the future on any trip out of town (even if its for two weeks) just leave the fish to themselves without someone feeding them. The fish will be hungry when you come back but you won't have to worry about someone massively overfeeding the tank and killing the fish.

Your filter should be taking a lot of the dirt out of the water. Try adding some filter wool if you dont already have it
