Elodea i believe

my plants are growing these weird sort of silky looking strands the dont come out of the bottom what are they?

Are they really thin hairlike green strands? Cos that's hair algae. Or are they white strands? Cos they're new roots - my elodea is doing this too. You can actually cut the stems and plants the bits with the new roots - double the elodea for free!
