Elodea Densa

I bought some of this today and thought it came already potted but its just the plants tied together at the root. My question is does this plant need to be potted? My substrate wont suit a root structure so if it does, whats the best way of doing it i.e. what 'soil' do I use and size of pot? I've never had to do this before as you can probably guess.

Elodea Densa will root in any substrate, this is one of the only plants i have had which grew well in a pot. I still would take it out of the pot to get the most out of the plant though. Un tie the plant and just put it in the substrate, it will root, it'll send off little white roots from about 2-3 inches bove the plant, and when it gets going you'll have to prune it often.
