Elephant Eared Giant Gourami

hi does anybody no of any information on the female elephant eared giant gouramis? i no they are a threatened species but i have been informed by a rescue centre that it is female and i am lucky to own one but research of my own shows different by sayin i have a male! so could anybody help me?
