Electricity Plugs?

Nearly every room in my house (bar the kitchen) had single sockets in and in most cases only 1 of them. I changed lots of them to triple sockets a few years back, then they have 4 or 6 gang trailing cables plugged into them most of which are surge protected.

Never, ever use an entension cord for any reason. They should be outlawed for home use IMHO, unless you're talking contractor/construction grade cords which really aren't feasable in the typical home setting. Use a breaker-protected power strip instead. One decent $15 (cheaper are available) six-outlet strip will be more than adequate for a tank. The device that's using the most power is your heater; the rest of your equipment use very little power in terms of watts. They're very affordable, there's no reason to not utilize them.

When I had about 6 tanks in one 8'x16' room it wasn't too bad. My brother in law is an electrician, I've done side jobs with him, along with plenty of my own electrical work. Outlet upgrades were no problem, add power strips & a seperate circuit with a gfi breaker & it's all good.

Once I got to around 12 tanks it was pretty well maxxed out. My latest fishroom redo put me up to 16 tanks. This was a little too much for power strips, so I switched from individual power filters on each tank to a centralized air driven system. The only power to each tank now is for the heater, if needed, and the occasional powerhead or canister filter. I light multiple tanks with one flouro fixture, 2 or 3 per light.
