As my 29gal is soon coming to an end... of cycling... I think i know for sure now that some Electric Yellows.

I also know for sure i want Cories.

Would these be compatible?
What else can i put in with the Yellows?
How many Cories and Yellows and of whatever else i get can i put in there?
Should i go all Electric yellows (and Cories)?
What should i know about keeping these guys?!

THANX!

I would not put cory's and the labs together - cory's belong in a peaceful community. Just about any other catfish would work.

In a 29 gallon you should really just stick to a few labs and a bottom feeder - there are really no other cichlids that will work in such a small tank with them.

If your looking for something small, cute and giddy get some candy stipe loaches in ther (botia striata) they are far more curious and swim at more levels of the tank, also they can defend themselves better than cories. Another added bonus is that they will mow through snails!

Sweet, i was just gonna ask, if not Cories what?

Ive never seen the botia striata around in any of the fish shops though.

What are some other schooling bottom fish i can have?

SO, im thinkin 4 Electric Yellows, and a group of bottom fish? Hows that?

most synodontus(sp?) catfish, some get very large, you'll have to check.
I kept cories with yellow labs for a long time, but I increased the hardness and ph to add more mbunas so I moved them into my angel tank.

Thanx for all the info.

I still need to know how many of the yellow labs can i have in there?

Also can i mix a couple labs with other cichlids like these.. I was looking at these...

Whats the max amount of these fish i can keep?

Thanx!

Yo Yo Botias ok with these cichlids?

You can start off with 8 juviniles if you like, but labs grow up to 5 or 6 inches long, and in the end you'll only want 4 or 5 in a 29 gallon.

I'll repeat myself. You can't keep any other mbuna in a 29 gallon tank. 29 gallons, as far as mbuna go, is a tiny tank. Socolofi will rip each other apart in it. You may get away with just one, and hope he'll be nice to your labs.

my Socolofi gets along great with my yellow lab. tho the lab is quite larger and it was there first. However when there were only three of them in there the Socolofi, the lab and an albino Socolofi, the Socolofikilled the albino. I then upped my crowding a lil more to 5 similar sized fish (the albino was also a lil smaller) and now they all get along like they been together since birth. Love my mbuna. (on a side note my tank is 40 gallon)
