i just bought an electric yellow lab and i put him in my 55 gal with my other community cichlids but he hides in the corner and will stay at the top like he is gulping air from the surface and will not come out unless he is chased out by another fish. i have since taken him and put him in my rearing tank with some danios 4 platys, one small electric yellow and 3 small electric blues. when i put him in my grow out tank he will act under normal behaviour, swimming and trying to take on territory. both tanks have the exact same chemistry since my growout water is fed out my 55 can anyone please help me

i have one angel fish, two female electric blues, one male electric blue, one cobalt blue zebra, one male electric yellow, one blue acara and two plecos one chinese algae eater, one talking catfish, a spotted green puffer, one hybrid convict/severum, and one auratus. i know that this is a wide span but i have had this set up for nearly a year without any problems even when it is come time for breeding the current fish are not aggressive to eachother any more than you would see i a species tank any help you offer is greatly appreciated thank you

If he won't even come out in one tank but has no problem in the other then there is probably a tankmate freaking him out. Problems means more then direct aggression, it also mean comfort and stress levels - with this Yellow I'd say that your community setup isn't working out for him. Keep in mind that Electric yellows are a unique mbuna in that they are grouping fish, living in large groups of males and females in the wild - they really benefit with the company of their own kind.
