I have decided to us the EI dry fert when my tank is set up. But in that article i read that most of the guidlines are for people with 2wpg+. Using EI whilst on 1.6wpg will this do anything bad. Also in the pinned topic in the dosing shedule no So4 is added i can see why but if i did need to dose SO4 what would the PPM need to be?

Here is my shedule.

KNO3 - Potassium nitrate- If you wish to make a stock solution then add 40g to 500ml of water (preferably RO) and add 10ml per 100L of water - this would give you a value of 5ppm

KH2PO4 - Potassium Phosphate- If you wish to make a stock solution then add 15g to 500ml of water (preferably RO) and add 5ml per 100L of water - this would give you a value of 1ppm

K2SO4 - Potassium sulphate- If you wish to make a stock solution then add 55g to 500ml of water (preferably RO) and add 40ml per 100L of water - this would give you a value of 20ppm

Day 1 - 50% water change, dose 40ml Potassium nitrate to bring your level up to 10ppm, dose 20ml Potassium Phosphate to bring the level up to between 1-2ppm.

Day 2 - dose 10ml trace and add iron if you are dosing iron.

Day 3 - top up both Potassium nitrate and Potassium Phosphate

Day 4 – dose105ml trace.

Day 5 - top up Potassium nitrate and Potassium Phosphate.

Day 6 - dose 10ml trace.

Day 7 - start again and reset the tank, 50% water change etc.

You had me worried for a minute mate! You mean K2SO4! The K2 is the important bit. Basically you add K2SO4 to add potassium to the tank. However in most cases adding the KNO3 and KH2PO4 will add enough to the tank. i.e as well as adding PO4 and NO3 you'll be adding K, very handy! Most people dont need to add extra K.

There is no easily available K test you just have to watch you're plants they will tell you if they aren't getting enough K, and they will develop pin holes in their leave which get larger over time. But as I say you shouldn't really need to add extra K :)

Sam

EDIT - I haven't checked those measurements but it sounds like you've worked them out :)

EDIT 2 - Where you getting the trace mix? A decent trace should have iron in it anyway so you'll probably not need to add the iron separately

EITD 3! - Its totally up to you, but on the 7th day I would do nothing, then do the water change, etc on the 8th day (which is also then the first day again) this is just my personal regime but you dont have to do anything on the 7th day just enjoy the tank. Also, the schedule then fits nicely into one full week :)

Is using EI with 1.6wpg ok then?

Oh right, to be honest I dont really know, I dont think there is any need to use EI but equally I dont think it'll do much harm. You may have to scale down the fert addition as the plants wont be using nearly the same amounts of NO3 and PO4, or trace with the lower light.

Are you going to upgrade the lighting at any stage?

Well if i do it wont be for atleast 6months because af cost already i think its gonna cost me £250. Il get a second opinion on the ferts of jimboo or gf225. Also anybody seen a lighting upgrade on a Fluval Dou Deep 1200?

Lighting is now sorted. Im getting the ferts in around a month. Anybody use the trace mix on

If so how long would a 125g pot last? 60ml per week. 1 500ml bottle per 8 weeks. How many bottles does 125g make?

Do you know how much of these elements are in your tap water? It may be relevant. London tap water comes pretty much ready EI'd.

My tap water is NO3 around 20ppm, and 2ppm Phosphate according to my water authority although my test kits read much higher.

I get 0.4ppm and 12 ppm on nitrates so i will still need to top up the nitrates during the week.

Dont know how long a 125g packet would last, but mine (albeit on a 25lt nano) is going to last quite literally years, so get that or the 250g and take it from there :)
