RobS - If the regulator dial moves when you open/close the regulator then this is your 'flow' rate not cylinder. The cylinder pressure will only alter when the bottle starts to near emptiness. Therefore you will need to keep an eye on your deop checker as when the pressure starts to drop, if it gets too little then the needle valve sometimes doesnt have enough pressure to work and you end up with the whole remainder of the cylinder in the tank and dead fish

Andy

:S Blimey! Didn't know that. Thanks :good:

There is provision on the regulator body to fit another gauge (which I now know will read the cylinder pressure), so I am now on the hunt for one.

So you have to keep a really close eye on the cylinder then? Let me know if you find another guage...i dont want all my fish dead over the cylinder dropping the rest of its CO2.

So really the only way without the 2nd guage to tell if its getting empty is to watch the drop checker?

Once you get your bubble rate consistent you will also be able to tell if it slowing from the bubble counter as long as you watch a couple of hours after it has come on (when using a solenoid valve)

When mine comes on the bubble rate is quite fast for a while because the pressure is 2 when it is close it seems to release more and then steady down again.

I would think you are better off buying a regulator than trying to fit another gauge as you may find you get a leak if you try to do this yourself and regulators can be bought for £30ish brand new so maybe less second hand.

This is the main reason why I didnt buy the D&D set because the adverts were showing a dual gauge but I read a few reports on her and APC about them coming with only one gauge. The D&D also comes with loads of bits I didn't want like the powered diffusor (not as good as ceramic IMO) and other bits and bobs which weere no use to me.

I would've bought the Aquarianversand if I had known about it before I bought the reg and bottles. I did buy the needle valve, CO2 hose and solenoid from them though. P&P to anywhere in Europe outside Germany is £19 euros or thereabouts.

There must be several variants of the D-D kit, as I didn't get the diffuser.

rsands... I've (finally) managed to track down a gauge HERE .

However, postage is £7 !! Which is more than the gauge itself costs. I'm still looking!

Any help locating one would be welcome

Fitting one (to the D&D system) shouldn't be a problem (says he, tempting fate), unscrew the blanking nut & screw the gauge in.

whats the guge do exactly? it says high pressure guage? Am i right in saying it measures the cylinder pressure?

Ok,

a week or so plant growth before and after....the after pic has had some plants trimmed...espec the right hand side...but you can see the growth on the green plant in middle and the red bulb plants infront of the bogwood. still have to order more HC to cover the ground...if my fish would quit digging up what i do have..! will it eventually anchor?

Does that gauge simply screw in the other blanked-off hole for the D-D setup? If so I assume it reads cylinder pressure? Worth having I think, even with the steep postage if this is what it does?

i searched high and low for someone else to do it but couldn't find anywere! i just ordered one from them, hopefully it will do the trick of reading cylinder pressure

I would guess that inside the regulator it has 2 valves (or something) and if you screwed the wrong gauge into the wrong side it would give an accurate reading still, but the numbers in the dial wouldnt tell you what that accurate reading was lol

Andy

rsands - you will tell us how you get on with the new gauge, I hope.

Don't forget to remove, or at least shut off, the cylinder, before removing the blanking screw - Gas escaping at 36bar, might not be too clever.

Andy..... I wonder, if you screwed the low pressure gauge (mine reads upto 6bar) into the high pressure feed (new bottle @ 36bar), would this not wreck the gauge? Or perhaps the needle spins round 6 times :hyper:

I have found gauges on ebay, but they are for hydraulics, and are filled with oil; so probably no use for gas installation.

the cylinder is pressurised at 36bar? so i ordered the high pressure so it should read the cylinder pressure? as soon as the guage arrives i will fit it...my d&d arrives tomorrow...i am assuming they will ship the guage tomorrow for delivery tuesday. i might not connect the set up until the guage arrives to it is all fitted before i fit the guage

Yep, 36 bar.

That's what it says on my (D-D) cylinder. "Pressure 36 bar at 0 degrees C". So presumably, at room temp, it will be even higher.

I seem to remember that the thread on my gauge was tapered; so don't try & screw it all the way home - I also used the PTFE tape (supplied with the kit) as an added precaution against leaks.

Oh yes  You will know when it's tight enough. You won't be needing the large monkey wrench

Don't worry, it'll all become obvious when you start assembly.

If you try to force a taper thread, it will strip, and the gauge will be difficult (or impossible) to seal.

A quick way to check for leaks, is to wipe something like washing up liquid on the joint - it will bubble up, if there is a leak. (a loud hissing sound, is also a bit of a give away :D ).

well the CO2 set arrived :D set it up the nite

onlineaquariumstore.com - no contact, cant get through, no response to emails as yet!!! so i rang d-d themselves and the guy said if i emailed him he would arrange to get one sent to me :d:D

UPDATE: after alot of chasing around with company records i found onlineaquariumstore owners...very helpful at that point when i got through and they have the guage ordered with d-d which will arrive end of week...but all that chasing has made it a pain!
