i am due to go away for a few days and wondered what was the best way to deal with my tank....

im dosing EI and usually do a 50% water change every monday. the tank gets dosed monday - saturday with ferts with sunday the rest day. i also add liquid carbon everyday.

my neighbour is ok to feed the fish while im away and hopefully dose the ferts at the right levels too!!! but i will miss the monday water change. is this ok?

whats the best thing to do?

When i went away for 2 weeks recently
did 50% water change day or so before leaving.Turned lighting down to 4 hours.
Stopped ferts & carbon.
make light the limiting factor, hope the CO[sub]2 [/sub]from the water change sees you through.
It worked for me but i stand to be corrected.

edit:no algae when i returned.Slowly upped the lighting when i got back.Started dosing again.

I went away for two weeks (I use the EI method in my low tech set up, dosing liquid carbon every other day, feeding them every other day) and all I needed to do was get my girlfriend to plop some trace elements in on day 7 and feed the fish twice (once for each week I was away). I have a timer for the lights so that wasn't an issue. I reduced the light from 9.5 hours a day to 6 hours a day. Job done. A few days will be fine :)

Personally, I would do your Monday water change earlier (ie: the day before you go away) and leave everything. Dose the ferts you normally dose during the water change but I wouldn't even bother feeding the fish whilst you are away. Fish are usually OK for up to 10 days before their bodies will need to consume food. :good: And when you get back, hold of changing any water until the following Monday.
