please can someone tell me how much you have to wash the Ehfi Substrat it is in a new Eheim 2026 Professional II filter . i have been washing it now on and off for 3 days it looks clear and when i put it back in and reconnect to the tank after a couple of hours running the water turns cloudy again if i leave the filter off and stick my Fluval 4 Plus Internal Filter in it stays clear.

thanks for any suggestions

I use the media you mention. What I do is place the media in a strainer and run it under the cold water tap until its clear, then I return it into the cannister and start it up. Yes it gives an initial spurt of cloudiness but soon clears once the system circulating and filtering. You should also use filter wool/matting with the media, this traps the small particulates and polishes the water before its return to the tank.

Something to keep in mind is that eheims do filter better as they mature, and some cloudiness when first setting it up is fairly normal. You've already rinsed the media so leave it alone and it will clear up on it's own with a bit of time.
