Eheim Filters And Fry

I will be grateful for some advice. I have a mature60 litre tank with corys in it. I am thinking of putting guppies/endlers and /or Galaxy Rasboras in it. I have an eheim filter...so presumably the some/all of the fry will end up in the filter canister. So presumably that will kill the fry . My questions are will dead fry in the filter pollute the water? and what can I do to stop it?Thanks gyillmard

I would take the dead fry out if you can. I'm not sure if you can actually get fry out of a filter but its worth a try. I don't know if they will pollute the water but do you really want dead fry in the tank? Maybe putting a net over the filter will stop fry from being sucked in. I think I heard that somewhere but I can't remember where. Good luck

good option although it will restrict ur water flow and put pressure on the filter motor

just take the filter off and catch the fry that end up in there once in a while, they wont be dead if you do it often enough, this is how i catch my fry

My first fry were born when i was at school, and I was gutted to see some had been sucked up into my filter

so the next batch i had i put a pair of tights over the intake to make sure it didnt happen again

Filter sponge, which is open cell sponge, will not put that much restriction on the water flow as you might think. Poke a hole in a block with a sharp knife, slide it over the intake. This is an old discus breeding trick, where clean water is a must. In this case the media in the filter is used for purely bio filtration, the sponge pre-filter is the mechanical filtration, and is removed & cleaned every day.

An Eheim canister is plenty strong in the motor department, this is the last brand of filter I would worry about restricting the flow on.
