Hi I just picked up one of these filters I could have well should have got the 200. as Im not even sure the height of it will fit in my tank looking at the size of the box.

My question is , can I just take one of the baskets off to make it fit? Dont want to open it all up to look incase I need to take it back

if its like the ehiem aquaball with connecting baskets then yes you can take a basket out, just remember to put the bottom one back on :good:

The bottom basket is different from the other baskets and has a sponge (the same type as the aquaball). The other baskets are all identical and hold substrat pro. Right at the top under the pump is a small sponge. You could easily use one less substrat pro basket as they just clip together.
When assembled, it measures 32.5cm tall.

I have one, it replaced an aquaball (which went into my smaller tank to replace an ancient filter) - I like it better than the aquaball.

Thanks for the info essjay. I think my tank is 35cm tall so it might get away with using all the baskets. If not ill take one of the middle ones out

i would strongly recommend you buy a smaller version. removing baskets will reduce the efficiency of the filter. perhaps look at the 160?

The 240 has three baskets of substrat pro, but the 160 only has one. If the OP uses a 240 with one less basket, that makes it the same as the 200, only with a more powerful pump. That would still make it more efficient than the 160. Or am I missing something?

well, possibly. if you move the water, too quickly, through the filter. the bio process will be compromised. to combat this, filters with higher flow, have larger media areas.

Ah, I see what you mean. So the best thing the OP could do if they want to keep the 240 and remove a basket would be to lower the flow rate (there's a knob on top for that)

I guess so. but i would have thought that buying the next one down, would do the trick better. remember if you reduce media and flow, to match. the filter will no longer be up to filtering the capacity its advertised for.
