Hi all, i have aquired a secondhand eheim 2213 ex filter but it hasn't got any pipework or filter media with it, whats the best media to put in it? Also not sure what pipework i will need. Any advice would be brilliant thanks.
The filter is going on a 180l 40g juwel tank which has the standard internal filter in it do you think the 2213 will be enough filteration on its own or should i run both

I use exactly the same filter with my rio 180 i have both filters running and have set up the external to the left of the tank.

The filter comes with two types of ceramics one being the tube like ones and th eother being the small bobbly balls.

it goes tube ceramics at the bottom then a filter pad then the bobbly ball ceramics then a black filter pad then a white filter pad.

Mine cam ewith 16mm eheim (green) flexibble hosing.

have u got the in line valves with it? if not u will need to buy those

Hope this all helps if u would like a photo of what mine is like thne let me know and i'll take one

Daniel

edit:
the inline valves are called double taps and are found on the link Davey Jones gave u i hope u have got them as they are £18.50 each and you will need two sets eeek

The best media for canisters is layers of ceramic rings, efi substrat pro and sponges placed into the filter in that order (ceramic rings at the bottom).

Cant say if the filter will be enough on its own or not without knowing the ammount and types of fish in the tank, if the tank is lightly stocked with small fish it will be more than enough but it may not be enough if the tank is heavily stocked with large or messy fish.
