I just got a Eheim 2213 for a rather small tank (10 gallons). I know it's over kill but we are planning on getting a 30 gallon soon. Anyway, it comes with 2 sets of shut off valves that splice into the inflow and outflow lines. Can I use these valves to adjust the flow rate so the fish are not getting blown around? Should I turn down both the inflow and out flow? Will this affect the pump head?

Thanks, Mike

Always use the Outflow only to adjust cannister flow.

I would say not to over-constrict. Use a combination of outflow restriction and re-pointing the spraybar outlets at the nearby tank wall so that the streams are bounced and disturbed.

WD - thanks for the reply. I spoke with Eheim yesterday and the tech support guy said I can restrict the outflow only and to do it slightly. I did redirect the flow to be almost horizontal on the surface. The fish are doing better.
