Hi all,
I have been reading these forums for some time learning and planning how to get my first tank setup. Today the last component, a Eheim 2126, turned up for my new tank. So far I have put down the substrate, filled the tank (it’s a 65G) and got all the plumbing and electrics sorted.

I started up the 2126 and all seemed to run fine. However, I noticed that the rate the temperature of the water is increasing was very slow. The 2126 had managed to raise the water by about 4degC in 3hours to 22degC. I thought this was a little slow so removed the filter/heater from the tank area and ran it on a 2lt bucket to see if the temperature increase was from the room heat or the heating element. I was able to push the 2lt sample to 31degC in about 30mins running it next to an open window. So the heating element is working in some way.

My question is, is the 2126 meant to heat the water this slowly or is there something wrong with it.

Thanks in advance

Hazel

This seems about right to me. I don't know the model numbers, perhaps you coud post the wattage of the heater and the size of the tank? That would help b/c then calculations could be made.

The heater is a 170W and there is ~100lt in the tank at present.

does sound about right, just let it run, it should get up to temp by tomorrow ..

my 180ltr took a good 8-10 hours to get up to temp with the standard 200watt juwel heater ..

yeah it can take a little while to get up to temp initially, remember it won't be that bad when it's running cos the thermostat will kick in when it drops by a degree or so, so it'll never get low enough for it to take a significant time to heat up.

:)

Many thanks for the help. I’ll leave the tank alone and let it heat up.
