I may be purchasing a large tank with equipment that includes (2) Eheim 2026 Pro 2 canister filters.  Does anyone have any experience with these?  I know Eheim is usually considered the best of the best but but this model is discontinued and so it's a bit hard to get any reviews online.

Are parts more expensive?  Are they known to leak or breakdown?  Any problems with restarting like I had with one of my Rena's?

Thanks in advance.

I have had two Eheim Pro II 2226 filters (one has the heating element built in) running continuously since I got them in 1996 and 1998 and they have never failed.  I've not looked into buying parts since I've had no need.

Buying used is always risky as you don't know what level of maintenance/care they may have received or not received.  But if they are part of the deal, and are working, they might last you for years to come.

The white and blue pads are easy to buy, I replace my white one at every cleaning.  You can buy a package of 1 blue/2 white, or a package of 3 white.  As for media, I now use Fluval because it is about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost, and it works just as well.  The benefit with Eheim is not the media, but the solid reliability and durability of the mechanics.

Byron.
