I'm considering (or rather being forced to) buying a new filter for my Rena 120x50x70 freshwater aquarium. I've been looking at the Eheim Pro 3e 2078 with all it's bells and whistles to replace the XP3 that came with my tank. It's developing some problems so I think it's time for a change.
I also looked at the 2178 (integrated heater) as an alternative (Does anyone know if Eheim is bringing out a filter that combines all of these features - complete with heater and all the clever electronics of the 3e's). On this subject, does anyone have any negative points about a filter with built-in heater or would you say external heaters are best/safest (I have 2 x 300w at the mo)?
Anyway, my real question....
I assume that I can put any filter media in the Eheim filter but could anyone tell me anything about the Eheim stuff (don't ask me to spell it!)? Is it any good? I currently use a lot of Seachem stuff (Purigen and Phosguard etc) to compliment the Rena ceramic stars and sponges. This usually keeps ammonia/nitrate/nitrite levels under control.
Cheers
