I was just wondering what sort of temperatures egeria densa thrive in and the best ways in which you can plant them in the aquarium?

I have bunched 5-7 strands of egeria together, as they are when potted, and I'm finding that the lower tendrils are starting to rot and drop off. Is this happening because not enough light is getting to them due to being planted so closely next to each other? The lower part of the strands are losing their ability to support the entire plant causing it flop as well.

I'm a bit stumped as to why they are decaying as my other fast growers are developing quite well.

Mark.

this plant can survive any condition IME, its bomb proof!

You can normally plant it however you want and it'll grow. It will flower at lower temps. Is the bottom just browning a little? This is quite normal for an older Egeria.

Plant a bunch of 2 or 3 stems 1" apart. Or seperatley if you have the patience.

Trim the bottom of and replant, you shouldn't have any issues then. If it continues to happen then there isn't enough light reaching the lower areas this shouldn't happen for a couple of months though.

Hey,

Yes it is browning; the stem is a light brown mixed with light yellow leaves (dead of course). You say there bomb proof but mine look like a bombs hit them on their lower half lol.

There is no space between each stem. That presumably is causing the problem?

Also what makes you say they conventionally do not start to decay at the lower half until a couple of months later? I agree with you as I've had a separate egeria before I had a c02 system installed and it lasted for several months before going limp. This egeria is flopping and decaying at the bottom after 2 weeks or so.

It could be.
The reason I say a couple of months is because when you are trimming the tops, this promotes new growth in the form of side shoots, so the stems bush out, this eventually blocks out the light to the lower areas and they rot. I had to uproot all my stems and trim the bottoms every couple of months otherwise they would have just floated to the top.

Thanks, Aaron

Thanks, I've taken your advice; I've trimmed the bottom part of all my egeria and then replanted them 3cm+ a part from each other.
