Hi guys.

im new to the site and would like to take the opportunity to say hi and introduce myself. my name is Darren im 36 and have a jewel rio 300ltr tank.
in my tank i have the following fish.

1 BGK
2 SYNODONTIS MULTIPNUCTATS
2 FEATHER FIN CATFISH
2 COOLIE LOACHES
1 DRIFTWOOD CATFISH
1 POLKA DOT CATFISH
1 PANGASSIUS SHARK
2 SYNODONTIS PETRICOLA

ALL THE ABOVE FISH ARE STILL VERY SMALL, THE TANK HAS BEEN SET UP FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS AND THE FISH WERE ALL BROUGHT AS INFANTS.

what i want to know is can i keep an eel in the tank with the above stock. i have heard most eels are predatory but would they hurt or even kill my cats? i don't want anything to big so fire eels and some species of spiney eels are out of the question. can anyone help as i am a great lover of all things unusual.

thanks i look forward to hearing from anyone.
Darren

In short no,

I'm assuming you are not aware but your Pangassius can reach sizes of 4ft alone. I'm not sure on the sizes of your other fish, but would be concerned about adding an eel as thats ALOT of bottom dwelling fish you need to accomodate for.

I would think about rehoming the shark and maybe upgrading to a larger tank

thanks for the info. i was told by the lfs that its a dwarf shark and will only grow to about 5 inches. all the catfish are small at the moment i know they will get bigger especially the featherfins.

the other catfish species i am told wont get that big. im not sure to be honest if they do get to big i will upgrade my tank size.

That's utter rubbish :/ Look HERE for example. If I'm not mistaken they're quite prone to flinging themselves around/out of the tank as well, really not suitable home aquarium fish at all.

I don't know what eels you're looking at if you only want a small one, as far as I know all freshwater eels are spiny eels (well, maybe except monsters like electric eels) and the SMALLEST you;re looking at is still about 8 or 12 inches.

thanks for the reply. i have decided against the eels. i will look for something smaller and more suitable for my tank. if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

cheers
Darren

BGK get to big for that tank alone and will need at least a 120gal tank eventually coolie(kuhli) loaches prefer to be in a group of 6 or more
