I asked on here before if it is okay to add another Severum to my tank and others have had success so thought I would give it a try. I added a small, not a baby, but young Green Sev to my tank and at first it was okay. Now my Red Head is chasing her around with stealth  ! Does this mean it is not going to work or is he maybe showing her who is king ? Worried I may awake to a dead little Sev tommorrow :(

I thought of the divider. Problem is I wouldn't be able to get one until tommorrow after work. I can't recall where I have seen one big enough for my tank either. She is hiding in the corner with some tall plants. Seems okay unless she tries to come out. Strangely my Opaline Gourami is hanging out over there like on the lookout or somthing..LOL

Is it 75 US Gal.?? (Over 280L??)

I made my divider from a condensation tray cut to fit with holes pierced in.> you could attach two smaller ones together to try and fit, assuming your Lfs has them in?

> Have also recently used a plastic lid off a storage box (brand new) cut to fit> it's sturdy and has holes drilled in for water-flow.

hopefully it will settle down, i was lucky, i added a young (maybe baby:p it was small) green sev to my 55, and my year old (3-4 inch) gold sev is great with it. You may have an aggressive male, and i may have a peaceful female, idk.. hopefully it will smooth out, normally my aggression problems with new additions do and i hope yours will aswell. A devider helps if its that serious but the only thing is that they are going to have to get used to eachother eventually.. if it starts showing signs of injury you may want to consider returning or relocating it, but hopefully that wont happen..

Goodluck, sevs are great fish, wouldnt want a dead one (ive been there before)..

Hmmm....

Cichlids are territorial. This means that the your old Severum thinks the tank is his, and this new one is invading.

Also, if it is a big size difference that isn't going to help.

Re-arrange the tank. This way, both fish can get the same chance on getting territory.

Make sure you keep an eye on the one getting beat up though. If he is in too bad shape then you need to take him out!

Sev's can take a beating, mine were brutally attacked by my texas and when they were breeding at times the male would chase the female to the corner of the tank, basically its a sign that the other fish has given up and is saying it's not a threat, if it's there 24/7 it's stressed and is probably getting badly bullied.

Thank you everyone. The little Sev doesn't have any injuries but is staying in that corner. She does try to come out on occasion only to get chased back. Think I will re-arrange the tank and get a divider just in case. The big Sev gives a chase and then stops...I imagine if he wanted to kill it he would try. I am afraid of what may happen during feeding. That is when he gets aggressive to all fish. Piggy. Keeping my fingers crosssed here.

Okay ...I am sitting here at work feeling sick to my stomach worrying about this poor fishy. I am going to go to the store and see if maybe I can somehow put 2 dividers together and make it work and/or try to create some more hiding spots. Like a cave only the small one can fit in ?

OR...if i must I can move her to my 30 gal. with Corys, Danios, Phantom Tetras, and Pearl Gouramis. The Danios I am re-homing, but I know this tank will eventually be too small. Oh ...and its planted...LOL...oh dear ! Anyhow...do you think she would be okay with those fish for the mean time if i do need to move her ? Thanks !

the small cave idea could work, if all else fails put her into the 30 untill shes bigger.. other then that idk..

good luck

Went to the store and spent $80 on new plants and ornaments  . I got some large ones but with smaller openings to go inside. Took them home and watched the tank for a while before returning to work. Didn't see the large Sev do anything but now the Opaline Gourami is chasing him  . Opal is a meanie ! Meaner than Bubba. Will see what happens. I got lots of work to do tonite.
