I've just ordered it from Amazon. See Here.

Anyone read it? I heard somewhere it is good, but can't remember where.

Very good book. Very informative. Perhaps even now though getting a little dated, esp the Allelochemicals part (but I'm only saying that because I got beaten up by some chap called Tom Barr, but what does he know? Probably some amature..... :p NOT that he finished his argument though).

Well, she's fairly clear when she does speculate, but folks suddenly take that to mean the word of God and cannot deviate.

It's about the best book around, while there's speculation, it's at least got some support, which cannot be said for most every other book I've ever read, thus I'd say it's the bets hobby book written to date based on that. It does pose speculation and such speculation can and should be tested to see if the hypothesis are correct or that they are not and we should look elsewhere.

Another issue is see when it was written(10 years ago), how far things have come, what she did get right, how it was presented to the hobbyist etc.

Certainly peaked my interest. She put a lot of effort into it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I look forward to it falling through my letterbox. :good:

Have you got a book out Tom? If not why not. If you haven't you really should... you are the father of E.I? Needs to be published.

It's called The Barr Report - http://www.barrreport.com/ and has loads more info than a book could have. Well worth every penny of the subscription.

There is still something nice, though, about turning pretty pages filled with glossy photos of aquariums. It would be great seeing a book on the Behemoth tank. Good coffee table book material. The EI book is really more of a textbook type, and the the website is great in that respect in that he can offer the most up to date information.

A book?
Nag nag nag:)
After the PhD. which is a worse book.

It'll happen, much like Diana's book.
It took her a long time to get it done and is was far more needed than any book on the topic I've seen to date.
It's the only book that addresses non CO2 tank methods and in detail.

A nice book to poke through is nice, a book that discusses a lot of information that's dense.... is harder to absorb.
I've heard 10 lectures on aquatic plants by ten people but every time I learn some part that's pretty new to me.

I was discussing boundary layers and CO2 mist yesterday. And the researcher agreed with my notion about it, but could not come up with an experimental design that could answer what fraction of CO2 phase got to the plant, CO2[aq] or CO2 [gas].
One thing we certain can say we know and can measure is the reduction in the boundary layer due to gas.
We can also set up an experiment to measure it in terms of plant growth/productivity(even a hobbyist).

Diana discusses a lot in the book and covers a lot of bases.
Such questions are good to address.
A good question and someone willing to look deeper into it, add some support etc is very rare

And don't I know it! Try this for size, Exploring the Methodology in Determining the Application of Free Ornamentation and Diminution to J. S. Bach’s Vocal Music, with emphasis on his Church and Da Capo aria forms: A Detailed Study.

Now that's some serious bathroom reading! :nerd: I bet it'll hit NY Time's bestseller when Pigs Fly.

I hear you, PhD first. Pretty B & N coffee table "Tanks of the Rich and Famous" book later.

what did you make of it?
I've downloaded a copy but have yet to sit down and read it.

Hi Garuf,

Its an interesting read, although i found it to be overly scientific for my needs.

I never studied chemistry, and as such, struggled to understand parts of it. Some of it is like a chemistry textbook. That said, what i did take from it was very interesting.
