Is 40lbs of eco-complete enough for a 55 gallon tank? I was planning on mixing it with about 60lbs of gravel and I'm not sure if this is enough. Eco-complete is rather expensive(especially since I want to get it shipped) and I'd rather not spend more money than I have to. I don't plan on trying to grow plants that are difficult to grow(not sure which ones yet) and I did want to try using seachem flourish excel so I guess that helps...

I just finished putting 100lbs of eco-complete in my 55gal. Well 60lbs really, but I will be adding 40lbs more tomarrow. One thing to remember is that eco-complete is black in color, so you will want to mix it with another black substrate, unless you don't mine multi-colored gravel. Also eco-complete is more like a sand/small gravel mix. If you mix it with a larger substrate the eco-complet will settle on the bottom. Other than that there is no reason you can't mix it with other substrate.

Out of interest how much are you willing to spend? I bought my 100lbs(5 bags) for $106 total including shipping.

I actually picked out black gravel to mix with it so yes, I did take color into account. :good:
I was only think of spending about maybe about $50 on the eco-complete total and I think it comes to about that with shipping of 40lbs.(at least at the site I was looking at) because it is so heavy and I honestly cannot find it in any LFS so yea...
Just out of curiosity, where did you purchase your eco-complete? I think that's cheaper than the site I was looking at.

Pet solutions is where I got mine. Heres a link. Shipping was about $13 for me. For 40bls shipping whould be $10 and the total would be $48. So not that much cheaper, My 100lbs only took 3-4 days to get to me.

Hope that helps,
