So I'll start from the beginning. I've had this fish from a juvenile. He is now about 7-8" long and is a very healthy fish. Has never had any sort of sickness at all. He was moved from one 75 Gallon to another last week and the water parameters all read the same in both tanks. 76-78 degrees F, ammonia 0, nitrates 0, nitrites 10-20. At first I thought this was simple bloat. He started growing a lump on his stomach area where he normally gets large after a good feast. Fed some peas and thought nothing of it. Normal right? Wrong.
Yesterday I noticed the lump was getting larger and he was no longer eating well. I put him in a 10 gallon hospital tank and I started Epsom Salt treatment at 1 tsp per 5 gallons. Today, I noticed he was seeping puss from the bottom of his belly at the tip of the lump. I started to slowly remove water and wet my hands. I then VERY GENTLY rubbed his side near the lump and large amounts of puss came from the now two pinholes that had opened on his stomach. I did this until I felt it was fairly empty and then completed a water change and re-dosed the Epsoms. He was still not eating, but the swelling went down for a while.
Tonight, I noticed that the swelling is no where near what it was yesterday, but the pocket seems to have possibly filled up with more puss. After further study of him, it seems like he is also trying to expel something from his mouth, but I can't see anything in his gills or in his mouth.
Internal parasite? Other infection?
Please help! I've kept fish for a long time an never have had to treat for anything other than ich. I keep very nice and very clean tanks with very good stock. HELP!
