Hi,

Thought I'd share a couple of pics of my tank..

20 harlequin rasboras, 20 Hespei rasboras, 5 botia striata, 3 angels, a breeding pair of bristlenoses and a batch of baby bristlenoses.

It's planted with anubias, java fern & vallis - all seem to thrive without any special substrate or Co2 diffusion - I only use root sticks and all is well.

Thanks for looking,

Lovely looking tank, the rasbora shoal looks fantastic. Do your angels ever eat the baby bristles?

Thanks, yeh the babies are chased every now and then by what must be a terrifying site for something so small!

I still manage to get about 20 adult BNs grown out from each batch though.

I really like the shoal too, they're fantastic fish - I need to trim the vallis as the pictures I've taken are rather dark..

Love it, very nice!
Those bristlenoses are cute. If you want to get rid of some eventually I will take one. Probably a good cash flow isnt it for plecs?

Thanks!

I take a couple of batches of BNs to my local maidenhead aquatics in Wheatley, Oxford - but I could keep a few back from this batch if anyone is interested?

I'll need to grow them up to around 3cm before they can travel though, otherwise I doubt they would make the journey.

If you live close to me (High Wycombe, Bucks, UK) then I'll be happy to drop some off, or meet you somewhere.

They usually give me around 50p in credit for each BN, so if I'm selling them in smaller numbers I will just ask for whatever the petrol cost is for me - so if you can pick them up from my house then obviously they're free!

I'll keep you posted on their progress, however I do have a couple of larger BNs left over from quite a few batches ago - somehow they kept slipping the net so they are now residents. But I would be happy to get rid of them, as they are now 2" long - male & female, although I wouldn't keep both together as they are from the same parent fish.

PM me if you want some and I'll reserve them for you.

Regards,
Paul

Thats pretty good, I had 2 survive from my last batch and theres nothing in my tank that would eat them. The current batch seems a lot healthier though and I've moved some to a breeding trap and nano tank since I think some are long finned and I want to see how they grow on.

Beautiful tank, the shoal really sets it off, love the BNs :good:

Thanks very much, the photos are pretty rubbish - they don't look any thing as good as they do in real life - I'll try and get some better shots which give more light to the bogwood & such.

Do you have a cannister filter? I open mine each month to find around 10 unharmed babies swimming around in there, they've usually grown up with no problems as well. Every other batch or so I move them in to a 30g grow out tank by syphoning them with quite a wide diameter pipe - this is best done a day or so after the male has stopped guarding the nest, and all the babies yolk sacs have gone.

dont cut the vallis it looks good and the rasboras will appreciate it

I don't want to, however I'm trying to grow hygrophila polysperma and quickly, so want to maximise their light as much as possible.

Fantastic tank. I wish I had that kind of luck with plants. :S

Thank you,

It took me ages to get it to this standard - and it was all about finding the right plants and fish for my water, rather than changing & messing around with my water for the fish & plants. The only ferts I use are root sticks, and the plants seem to thrive.

perfectly okay stocking, harlequin rasboras dont produce much waste at all.

They don't at all - brilliant little fish - it's ashame my camera can't pick them out any better. Most the waste in this tank comes from the BNs - the little buggars are miniature poo factories. But having said that the filtration is fairly matched - it's a fluval 405 and seems to cope with anything they throw at it.

Very nice tank. I like the rasboras lovely colors :D

They are by far one of the most impressive & engrossing of the shoaling fish - if you walk past the tank they will swim in tight formation across the tank together, it's brilliant.
