easy! 8) sorry thats me being all street

i got a question for all you cichlid keepers out there! i have seen some keyhole cichlids at my LFS and am very interested in getting them once i have cycled my tank. since i live in london, my tap water ph is 8.5, and i was wondering whether my tank which is decorated usig silk plants and driftwood would be suitable for cichlids as most tanks i have seen on here are basically empty with loadsa rocks. i dont know what my tank ph is yet as i haven't cycled but surely the driftwood wouldnt change it too much?? so i was just wondering if cichlids would enjoy a planted tank with driftwood??!!

many thanks!!

The reason you keep seeing tanks with rocks & crammed ful of fish is that this is the African cichlid board - Keyholes are south American and would love plants & bogwood but your pH is a bit high.
You need to check the lfs has them in tapwater rather than RO water. If they are in RO you'll need to match parameters of have a rethink.
They can live at higher pH but breeding isn't usually successful.

lol i noticed i posted in the wrong forum afterwards!! sorry to all! yeah, i thought the ph was a bit dodgy but i just wondered if the bogwood would get it down sufficiently?? thanks for ya help!
