How long should it take my sword tails to mature, I have been breeding tropical fish for a while now but I have never really taken any notice on how long it takes them to mature! The lot I have at the moment seem to be taking along time to mature, or is that just because I have only just started noticing how long it takes????

Just curious??? toni

To breed, it kinda depends. Some males are slower than others. On the average I think it's a month and a half.

For breeding the earliest is usually about 3 months...but it seems your's develop much quicker, Love_Fish! Really, the females can be bred with anytime there is a mature male in the tank. If you are raising them together, then all you have to wait on is the male. Some males are slow-pokes, some develop pretty quickly. But about 3 months is the earliest I've ever noticed a gonopodium. But maybe mine fit into the 'Slow-Poke' category, I don't know.

As for selling, I've never sold mine (Only had a few each batch and wanted to fill up my tanks) I'd guess around....mmm....8ish months? Depends how young the store is willing to take them. Maybe someone else who sells them can answer your question better. :)
