Emmmm....Its really up to you.. The plastic piping is probably only this thick anyway >-----------< so its up to you. The externals are by far the better choice of filter. I hate my internal one now..and am just thinking about taking out all the sponge from it and replacing it with bioballs to just use it as biological filtration instead of solid particle filtration.
