OK as if there wasn't enough wrong with some tapwater, there is now a warning of E-Coli being in it

Those of you living there, please take required precautions for yourselves and your pets, including fish if doing water changes

There is no API chemical to rid of that....

Ah, let it sit separately?

There has been a breakdown in the water supply chain of the English South East and the main water supply is currently contaminated with E.coli bacteria. Whilst this is probably a tiny contamination, the water supplier is doing its job and warning its customers to boil any drinking water, just to be on the safe side. Normal levels of chlorine in the water are set to manage normal levels of different bacteria, but, on rare occasions, there is a more serious contamination.
Those in the area might also detect a stronger smell of chlorine in the water as a consequence, as more is pumped in to address the E.coli.

Obviously, it is always useful to know if your tapwater's contents have changed in any way, so you can take the right measures to keep everyone and everything safe.
For example, all aquarists will most definitely be using a water conditioner.

Those of you in the affected area should probably avoid doing water changes on your tanks for a week. If you need to do a water change, put the tap water in a container and add a double dose of dechlorinator, then aerate for a few hours before using the water.

This is such a southern problem , we don’t drink water in the north
