I have a community tank with 2 mollies (1 male 1 females) and 3 red coral platies (2 females one male). I also have 3 female fighters. All my platies looked fine ( think the females are preggers as they both have had swollen bellies for about 3 weeks now) but i just looked in and one of them is sitting on the floor of the tank, with her tail-fin clamped. She isn;t swimming too well.

Do you know what is wrong with her and if she is dying? Should i isolate her or is she just about to give birth?

Hard to tell. Any other symptoms of anbything you've noticed? How big is the tank? Do you have any stats? Has she been shimmying or twitching or rubbing or anything lately?

I just did a water test and my nitrite is 0.25, nitrate was about 3.0 and ammonia about 0.25. I know they are slightly out, but it is nothing serious, they are hardly elevated.

The tank is 55L (11Gal)

And i have not seen any funny behaviour apart from this clamped tail.

I have just added some Melafix to the tank...but i would really like to know what this is and if it will affect my other fish...

seems to have cleared now anyway, he tail is no longer clamped and she is swimming around...i haven't a clue what it was....odd eh

Your water parameters are barely good enough. To get a little room for the ongoing fish wastes that are constantly being added to the water a partial water change is in order. The ammonia and nitrites are already at maximum for fish health.

i did a partial water change, but i was still getting those readings...they seem fine now anyway!
